When the annual fee bills
The annual fee bills separately from your monthly dues, on a date set by your club. One club rates page we checked, New Albany, Ohio, says “Billed annually on 1/1”, and its footnote says the “Annual Membership Fee of $49.00 will be billed on or shortly after January 1st.” Other clubs may use another date.
Find your own date in the member portal on planetfitness.com, on your membership agreement, or in the app under My Billing Info & Balance.
How to stop the annual fee
Planet Fitness: “To stop the billing of the annual fee, you must cancel your membership at least 7 days prior to the annual fee date.” If your annual fee date is January 1, that means cancelling by December 25.
Annual fee, monthly dues and the buyout
- Monthly dues: cancel at least 7 days before your next billing date.
- $49 annual fee: cancel at least 7 days before the annual fee date.
- $58 buyout: only if your membership has a minimum term and you leave before it ends. No Commitment memberships cancel at any time without a fee.

Questions people ask
Do Black Card members pay the annual fee?
Yes. Planet Fitness's membership page says memberships, Classic and PF Black Card alike, are subject to an annual fee of $49.
Does Planet Fitness refund the annual fee?
Planet Fitness states no refund rule for dues or the annual fee on its membership and customer service pages. Cancelling at least 7 days before the annual fee date is the way to stop it.
Is the annual fee the same as the $58 buyout?
No. The $49 annual fee bills once a year. The $58 buyout applies only if your membership has a minimum term and you end it before the term is over.
